ABOUT THE EVENT
'Day in the Country' had modest beginnings in 1987 as a 'Gala Art Show'. It was presented as a great opportunity for the public to view paintings by our very own and greatly admired David Perks and other popular Manning artists. For many years, the artwork was presented in the Hall with the northern wall converted into a 'gallery'.
Then, in 2000, the community joined with the then Greater Taree City Council to purchase the former one-teacher school from the Department of Education. The building had not been used for more than two decades and was in need of care and attention. Since then the School House, as it is fondly known locally, has been renovated to house a permanent functioning gallery system using funds raised during the Day In The Country and other KCA events.
Now, after 35 years in our physical home we've made some changes to the online space and we are so excited to announce our new online submission form and. a whole new prize component!

Additionally, the exhibition itself is being extended and will not just be open during Day In The Country, but will be open for viewing in person at the school house from the 30th August until the 2nd September.
There will also be an online virtual gallery component so even the people who can't make it in person will be able to see the wonderful works included in the show from our website.
Submissions are open to all artists of all regions and mediums so long as you can hand-deliver the works to the hall for exhibition.
All art will be available for sale and can be browsed online in advance of the exhibition and for purchase on the day.
Share the event:
Download the flyer (by clicking here), to share the event with your friends and invite other artists you know to participate. Additionally, you can invite people to the facebook event listed here, and RSVP yourself to help get the word out.
Killabakh Art Group
The local Killabakh Art Group will have a dedicated section for automatic inclusion, but if they would like to enter the competition to win a solo show they will need to enter using the online application form.
The Team
There is no longer a single section head curating the show but rather a team of four people dedicated to Killabakh's art community: Heather Scarr, Rose Bock, Kathryn Warwick and Milly Morgan. This committee will be deciding how to allocate space to the artworks that are submitted for inclusion, which works to display, and managing the entries for the prize competition and raffle.
This event is exclusively run by volunteers from the local community and hosted in the School House adjacent to the Killabakh Community Hall. These grounds are run and maintained by the Killabakh Community Association (the KCA) and are not used for gallery exhibition purposes for most of the year. We have significant gallery hanging equipment and trained gallery professionals on the volunteer committee however it is important to note that all of us are community members pitching in to make this a wonderful event.
Come along and celebrate with us!
